| What is Dye Sublimation Printing
& Why Do I Need It? If you want to print
on mugs, license plates and other popular hard surface items
then Dye Sublimation printing is the answer!
Dye Sublimation, as a process is really very simple. It is
the method of applying an image to specially coated ceramics,
metals and polyester cloth, using three main ingredients:
sublimation ink, heat and pressure.
Sublimation ink is unique in its ability to convert from
a solid to a gas without going through a liquid form. (Just
like dry ice.) The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled
with pressure and time. Hard items such as ceramic, fiber
board, metals, etc. requires a special coating to accept the
sublimation inks. You must purchase the mugs, tiles, metals,
etc. with the coating already on them, it is not something
you can coat yourself. We carry a full line of these sublimatable blanks.
When you apply to 100% polyester (ie: our mouse pads and puzzles)
you do not need any coating, it is applied directly to the
100% polyester fabric.
You can purchase dye sublimation inks for certain Epson
(only) desk top ink jet printers (ie: Epson C82, C84,
C86, C88, 1280, 3000, 4000, 4800 & 7600) to do sublimation
printing. The printer is not sold directly from Epson with
these sublimation inks. We do offer some of these printer models.
The sublimation inks are something you would
need to buy from a company such as ours and the heat transfer
paper that you would print these inks on we also supply. The
heat transfer paper for sublimation printing does not
have a coating on them. This paper has a special finish on
the surface so the inks do not soak into the paper. After
you print the transfer paper it is then placed on the product
to be applied with a heat press.
PLEASE NOTE: You can switch your printer back to using
regular inks at any time. However, it is not practical to
switch back and forth. If you are setting up a Sublimation
Printing System do not expect to use the same printer for
other purposes.

Yes, our Standard and Porcelain Mugs are dishwasher safe
for domestic use. However, we do not recommend that our Silver
or Heat Sensitive mugs are used in a dishwasher due to the
specialist coating on them. We recommend that you do not use
a scourer or abrasive cleaner on any of our mugs.
How does your Heat Sensitive Mug work?
Our heat sensitive mugs have a black exterior finish, when
the image is printed onto the mug this is hardly visible until
hot liquid is added. The coating of the mug reacts with the
heat and the mug changes from black to white. Once the mug
starts changing to white your image is revealed. |
